Petition against Physician Assistants

Recently there has been a proposal to employ Physician Assistants in teaching hospitals by Queensland Health. In the UK, the use of Physician Assistants has been widely recognised as a disaster within the NHS, and a previous trial in Queensland was similarly a failure.

Queensland is not the only state or territory in Australia to have considered the use of Physician Assistants to date, and the potential for harm to patients and Australia’s public health systems is very real.

For these reasons the ASMOF Federal Executive recently resolved to call upon all members to sign a national petition and voice their strong opposition to the use of Physician Assistants in Australia.

The petition and a list of issues can be accessed via the following link:

Just as the ASMOF Federal Executive will be calling upon support from other health unions and the AMAs, we ask that you share this petition and encourage your colleagues to sign as well.
